Lincoln Students Help Save Lives With their Pennies

Lincoln Middle School has joined forces with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to raise money through Pennies for Patients, a service learning program that saves lives.  Every winter, students across the country bring spare change to school and donate it in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors.

Lincoln students were so moved by the speaker from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society who shared stories of blood cancer survivors that they began donating their money immediately. Within three days, our students had already raised $632!  The grand total raised by the students was $3,571.61.  Mrs. Trafton's homebase collected the most money totaling $887.91

Not only does service learning help build compassion and self-esteem, but in this case, it will serve students' appetites, as well.  The homebase class that raises the most money will enjoy a complimentary lunch from Olive Garden, and the winners will enjoy as much pasta as they can eat!

We will be raising money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society all year, and more fundraising activities are being planned by our Social and Emotional Learning Committee that will continue to involve our students in service learning projects that enrich their own lives and the lives of others. Future fundraising events include an Icecream social in March and the P.E. Marathon in May.
