Humanities: Language Arts & Social Studies
Become One
Humanities are the stories, the thoughts, and the language that
help us make sense of our reality and our world. Humanities
introduce us to people we have never known, places we have never
seen, and ideas that may have never crossed our minds. By showing
how others have lived, humanities help us decide what is important
and how to improve life. Through this connection with others,
answers are available and truth is achieved when it comes to
awareness of culture and heritage. Humanities help us address
the challenges we face as individuals, together in our families,
our communities, and as a nation.
The Humanities Program at Lincoln Middle School will blend
literature, history, writing, and the arts in order to explore and
learn about the human experience in a diverse world. Through the
use of thematic units that incorporate technology, humanities will
provide students with a rich opportunity to become objective
readers, writers, and thinkers.
The Humanities Program is supported by the goals and standards
set by the State of Illinois in English Language Arts, Writing, and
Social Studies.
Students who complete the
Humanities course at Lincoln Middle School will...

experiences.
